Atlanta restaurants step up to make a difference in the community.

Souper Jenny, the cozy Buckhead soup and sandwich shop with a huge following, once again took on DOFL restaurants large and small by pledging to contribute 100% of sales on April 22, 2009 -- $5,000.00 to support Open Hand community nutrition programs -- more than any other participating restaurant!

What possesses a restaurant to give so much -- especially when times are tough? To engaging chef and owner, Jenny Levison, it's certainly not about publicity or recognition. She's already appeared on the NBC Today Show, has a new cookbook flying off the shelves, and a line out the door of her cafe at 56 East Andrews Avenue.

No, for Jenny it's about investing in the work of Open Hand.

"My reason for supporting Open Hand is pretty simple," according to Jenny. "I truly believe that learning about and incorporating FRESH food into your daily life is the number one way to a healthier lifestyle. I am the first to admit that a drive through your favorite fast food joint is the quickest way to satisfy your hunger, but it's also the quickest way to increase your chances of living an unhealthy life. I find so many people don't know how simple it can be to improve your health, and bringing these services to people who can't afford it like Open Hand does every day is a great way to start."  She adds, "In these economic times it's even MORE important to up the generosity. It doesn't hurt in the Karma department either!"

Here to Serve Restaurants went all out in support of Dining Out for Life to benefit Open Hand in 2009

Here to Serve Restaurants have always been tremendous supporters of Dining Out for Life to benefit Open Hand. But this year, the innovative restaurant group took it up a notch. 

For Dining Out for Life '09, H2SR solicited the support of celebrity hosts like Holly Firfer and Tom Sullivan of Atlanta & Company fame and Jenn Hobby of the Bert Show on Q100.  They also planned special entertainment such as Chinese dragons and drummers at Aja, a fashion show at Noche, and a Broadway-themed evening at Home.

It was indeed a night filled with surprises, and expect more of the same in 2010!  So plan to dine at one of the participating Here to Serve restaurants -- Aja, Prime, Noche, Shout, Twist, Lola and Home!
